Our Story

The Mistry Group story beganin the 1940s. Harshad Mistry was born to his father, Vijaday in Johannesburg South Africa, and together the two of them moved to the United States. In the US, they sold ornate hats, and were eventually able to purchase the building their factory was in. Before they knew it, they were making more money off of renting portions of the building than they were from selling hats.

Harshad and his wife Usha lived in New York City with their two sons, Mahesh and Devesh, and later moved to Tampa, Florida. There, the sons started helping out with the company at an early age. Later, Devesh earned a finance degree from USF and Mahesh became a licensed architect, and they both took on much larger roles in the business.

As a company rooted in modest beginnings, Mistry Group knows what it’s like to take a leap of faith. That is why they aim to establish healthy and supportive relationships with clients.

“I’d hope that this company can become a recognizable face locally, known for being fair and honest, while still being able to support the people running the business. I wouldn’t say we want to ever become some kind of large corporation, but we’d like to stay small and efficient, with a small team of motivated people. I’d ultimately like to achieve work-life balance that my immigrant family was not able to achieve, because understandably, they had to grind to get to where they are today” - Mahesh Mistry
